Object Of Desire: Velvet



Peter Pan Collar Dress - Topshop - £95

I can't look at velvet without getting Blue Velvet stuck in my head. I'm really happy that this fabric is fast becoming the latest trend. A few months ago I bought a beautiful oversized black velvet bow hairband from H&M which reignited my love for this material. It is generally seen the kind of thing that goths might wear but as shown by these pieces it can look really elegant. I do have a massive thing for Peter Pan collar dresses - I must own at least 10! But at £95 I don't think I can afford to add the Topshop one to my collection. I only recently bought a black chiffon playsuit from Miss Selfridge but I am loving the black velvet one with white chiffon sleeves. I think I may have to splurge out on it. Has anyone else seen/own any great velvet pieces or is it something you think should remain on the streets of Camden Market?

    I just purchased a vintage dark green velvet dress form the 70's :) a few adjustments and it's seeing the light of day I tell ya! xo.

    My gosh, how I love velvet, I told my friends about two years ago, its coming back in!!! They really didnt go for my excitement, at all lol! I have a blue velvet jacket that my mum had in the 80's, i love it! xxx

    As an aging goth, I'm always drawn to velvet. I think as long as you stay clear of CRUSHED velvet it always looks elegant. Loving the Miss S playsuit x

    That first dress is amazing! It looks a lot like the alexa chung for madwell dress. Velvet items are really nice and so lovely for autumn and winter!

    I think velvet has evolved pass the Camden Goth, I was in Topshop and tried on this lush dress. If only I had the 95?!!! Pounds for it.

    i used to dislike the texture of velvet, but now i'm slowly learning to love it, i now own two pieces of velvet clothing, and i'm looking forward to adding more to my wardrobe :) the first dress is so pretty, the collar is beautiful. love, jazzabelle. xx
