Bleach London Super Cool Colours Parma Violets

Bleach London Super Cool Colours Parma Violets - £5

In the words of Gob Bluth 'I've made a huge mistake'. I have been seriously excited about the launch of the Bleach London hair dyes for weeks. They finally came out on Tuesday and I made a beeline for Boots to pick up a few bottles. I ended up with Rose, Awkward Peach, Washed Out Mermaid and Parma Violets. After much deliberation I decided I fancied going lilac first. So I blobbed out some Parma Violets into my mixing bowl and got on with applying it this morning. What an error. I followed the instructions exactly: shampoo and towel dry hair, apply dye and massage into hair, leave on for 15 minutes and wash out with lukewarm water. But as you can see I don't have lilac hair. I now have a patchy blue and purple mess. My hair is bleached to the extreme & the colour is very even. Therefore my hair should've been ideal for these dyes. I even sectioned out my hair and used a dye brush to apply it evenly so I can only guess it's down to the quality of the dye. When I normally dye my hair pastel colours, I mix in some conditioner to dilute the dye. However this dye is supposed to come out as a pastel colour without adding any conditioner. Obvs not true. I was expecting this kind of colour from the shade Bruised Violet but not this supposed lilac shade. The colour itself isn't completely horrendous, just a bit patchy & not at all what I was expecting. I don't think patchy dye is necessarily a problem when you're using pastel colours but because this is so bright, it doesn't look right. It actually looks pretty nice in these photos but it's much worse in real life, trust me. The only good thing about this dye is how soft it makes my hair feel.

These dyes are completely overrated. I fell for the hype because Bleach London are such a well established hair salon (although I have heard they actually use crappy old Crazy Colour in there). These dyes are supposed to wash out in 2-10 washes but I have a feeling some staining will be involved. Hopefully it'll look better when it fades a bit. Bleach also make a Washing Out Liquid to help the colour fade faster but I've heard some people on Twitter saying it hasn't worked for them & they had to give their hair a bleach bath instead. It might just be Parma Violets that's a bit rubbish but it's still disappointing when I had such high hopes for these dyes. If this purple ever washes out I'll be testing the other colours I bought but otherwise I'll be sticking to Directions from now on. You can see how my hair looked when I used Directions to dye my hair lilac here. If you do still want to try these, either do a patch test or dilute them out first. Don't make the same mistake as me.

  1. I've been waiting to read a review on these dyes. I think it looks very lovely on you, but it's a shame you didn;t get the desired colour. hope you have more luck with the others. x

  2. I think it looks amazing and I'm not just saying that to be nice, I love how multi-tonal it looks like my little pony hair :) I think it will grow on you! x

  3. Totally not just saying this, but your hair always looks lovely and this is no exception, I think you're one of those super lucky people that can pull off any hair colour! That being said, it sucks that the colour isn't what you were hoping for, and it's crazy how many different tones are there! I was tempted to give one of these a try, the shade washed out mermaid has been calling to me, but I think I'll search for some reviews first because I might be better off sticking with directions <3 xo

  4. I must admit I do love this colour on you, and I personally think the patchy blue and purple looks awesome. But obviously if it's not the colour you want then it's super annoying!
I've never ever had a problem with Directions dyes and they're cheaper too, so I think I'll just stick with them and not bother with the Bleach dyes. Hope you get the colour you want soon! :) x

  5. I actually love the way it has turned out on your hair caroline! the multi-tonal sections look purposefully done and really awesome :) Please don't be so upset! :)
I hope it fades more to the colour you really want though & I'm sure it will.

I've been thinking about picking up their dip dye kit & a colour so I can have coloured dip dye but I'm really nervous about it because my hair is a strange auburn colour from dying it red and I think it'll look weird! gah.

  9. I really wanted to try these out from what I'd heard too but thank you for writing this as I think I'll take a miss now! In all honesty I think it actually looks really cool on you but I know what you mean when it's just not what you were after. Maybe in a few washes it will lighten up :)

  10. Your hair looks amazing, I love that colour on you! I've seen such huge hype over the bleach London products and it's such a shame they don't live up to the hype and you didn't get the color you wanted; but I think it looks great on you! x

  12. That sucks that you had a rubbish experience with them. I was tempted to try out the same colour just on the ends of my hair I'm not a pro when it comes to dye and had no idea what brand is best for wash out. I still may give these a go but I'll 100% take into account your advice! xx

  13. Oh wow, people will probably think I'm harsh for agreeing with you but that really is super patchy. I still think you look great, but I'll definitely be passing on these now.

  21. Aww it looks so gorgeous as well!

These have all sold out in Boots near me, which I'm not surprised about at all!

I hope it's just Parma Violets that has been a let down. :(

  26. I think it will look great after a few washes as it probably will turn more pastel but I know what you mean about it being abit of a shock now as it's obviously brighter than you would expect! I think I would be abit scared to use these as it is so drastic initially but I'd love to see how the colour adjusts after washing :) Xx

  27. i really love it on you! My awkward peach has faded now and it literally just looks like the crazy colour candyfloss - super dissapointed it's PINK not PEACH :( I was going to use this one for my mothers wedding in 2 weeks (and wash it so it fades) cus my dress is a pinky peach colour and i thought it would look cute but i may reconsider! xx

  28. These photographs make it look amazing! I love the different shades in your hair, it looks really nice :)

How easy is it bleaching brown hair? I've always dyed my hair but bleaching is something I've never dared do, but I'd love pastel hair!

  30. Soo disappointing! I had never really heard of Bleach (salon wise) until a few bloggers wrote about it and they were all rave reviews - so obviously I expected the colour to be the same. If I still had bleached hair I would be very tempted by this but this doesn't look great quality at all. What a shame!

  35. What a shame you don't like it. I was just looking at the pictures and wondering how you managed to get the colour to vary like that - I think it looks really lovely. Much nicer than one all over colour. I hope you warm to it as it looks gorgeous, but if it was supposed to come out even it's a bit of a mistake on their part! I think it looks really pretty xxx

  36. Boots were out of this shade when I went in today and apparently it's been recalled! Only this colour though so maybe you just got one from a bad batch and the others will be fine. I actually think the different colours it's brought out in your hair look lovely though :) xx

  38. I also fell for the hype and tried out parma violets and ended up with green hair! They have recalled that shade apparently. You are right thought, since your blonde is very even and the perfect shade it shouldn't have turned out so patchy. so annoyed I ranted about it on my blog -

  41. I really like the colours in it, but understand why you would be disappointed if you dyed over even coloured blonde and ended up with an array of uneven colours from the lilac! Please let us know how it lasted with washing and whether it stained your hair or not!

  45. Any form of violet colour will go blue. trust me it's a mistake I've done 100 times over. Violet is a bluey purple, when hair is bleached and a rough/damaged texture I've found my hair either grabs to the pink in the colour or the blue,
When getting a blue based purple.. Your hair will go blue, I've only just bought these colours and haven't used them yet and never used the brand as I never trust colours "off the shelf" but maybe it's your hair that's the issue? Not the colour

    ReplyDelete

    1. If any form of violet turns blue then explain to me how I currently have purple hair that fades perfectly back to blonde without any hint of blue? My hair was not the problem. It does grab pigment very easily but that pigment should've been purple not blue. Bleach London themselves admitted the formula was bad as this exact issue happened to everyone else who used this particular dye & as a result the product was recalled from sale.
