Surania Custom Swimwear

Surania are an online Spanish swimwear brand who offer their customers the opportunity to design their own swimsuits or bikinis. They make swimwear for men, women & children in hundreds of different styles so you can choose something entirely unique to you. A little while ago they asked me if I would like to create my very own bikini & I jumped at the chance! I was immediately intrigued by the concept of their website as I've often struggled to find swimwear that I like & that looks good on my body. Surania kindly sent me a gift voucher so that I could try out the website for myself & design my dream bikini.

After looking through all the different styles available I decided to order the bandeau balconette flounce bikini top & the high waist fixed bikini bottoms. Coming up with your own unique design is the best part! It's so much fun & I could spend hours playing about on their website. They have so many different colours & patterns to choose from, the possibilities are endless! To complete your design you just click on a section of the bikini template & then click on your chosen fabric. As much as I wanted to design something bright & colourful, I figured I would be more body confident in something monochrome. I fell in love with the pretty floral design of the Vitoria fabric so I used it all over with a couple of black & white accents. After finalising your design you need to choose the sizes. Surania's swimsuits aren't just designed to your specifications, they are tailor-made to fit your exact measurements! Buying swimwear off the rack can be nightmare because most of us will need a different sized top & bottom. They tend not to accommodate for large boobs or bums either so Surania is a great place to look if you want something that will fit you perfectly.

I had to wait about three weeks for my bikini to be delivered. They provide fast shipping all over the world using DHL but of course you have to wait for your custom bikini to actually be made. Once it arrived on my doorstep I couldn't wait to see how it looked in real life! This is my bikini set & it's everything I was hoping for. It's so cool to see something you've designed become a finished product. I wanted a top with an underwire & I love the cute flounce trim. High waisted bottoms are great if you have a bit of a flabby tummy & they hide my laparoscopy scars. I'm really happy with the styles I chose & the fabric looks lovely too. It's really thick & fully lined so it helps to hold you in. Best of all the fit is spot on! Surania offer a perfect fit guarantee so if you didn't measure yourself correctly, they'll happily exchange your order within 30 days of receipt. It might be a bit more expensive than the average bikini but this is no average bikini. Swimwear of this calibre is worth every penny.

Bikini - Surania* / Kimono - eBay / Sandals - New Look / Hat - River Island / Sunglasses - Quay Australia

I never thought I would be posting bikini pics on the internet but here I am! I've spent most of my life hating my body after being bullied over it at school & even though I lost a lot of weight I was never happy with myself. Over the last year I've gained a stone from not exercising enough & eating whole share bags of chocolate buttons in one sitting. August is the worst month for me food-wise because I always pig out at the Huddersfield Food Festival & have a few indulgent meals for my birthday. I'm currently the biggest I've been in a long time but I'm just tired of being down on myself for it. I'm planning on joining Slimming World when Chloe goes back to school on Wednesday but in the name of body positivity I decided to take some pictures of my current beach body. As you can see the Surania bikini is such a great fit on me & the style is flattering on my shape. Wearing it definitely makes me feel more confident in my body & I'm not ashamed to go out in public like this. To go with the monochrome design I paired it with some black & white accessories. I bought this kimono from eBay & it's a fab beach coverup. I adore the tassels on the sleeves & bottom edge! I also wore my white New Look sandals & black straw fedora from River Island. I've bought so many pairs of sunglasses from Quay Australia this Summer! These are the Invader sunglasses & I love their cut-out cat eye shape.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks: Celebrity Skin & Unicorn Blood

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks - £13

Liquid lipsticks are insanely popular right now. It seems like every week another brand comes out with their take on these long-lasting lippies. I love this kind of lipstick because their ultra matte finish means that my hair won't get stuck on my lips if it's windy outside & the colour won't transfer onto my crooked teeth. The ones that I was most interested in trying out are the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks. The Jeffree Star range has some of the coolest colours available including black, purple & blue. The Velour Liquid Lipsticks have amazing colour payoff & the ones I've tried are completely opaque with one swipe. I wasn't a fan of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks because I had to keep layering the colour & they have an unpleasant sticky feeling. The Jeffree Star formula is quick to dry & should be set after about a minute. The consistency is thin & feels weightless on the lips. I haven't noticed any discernible scent or taste from them which is always a good thing. They have a fully matte velvety finish & although they feel drying, these lipsticks are never uncomfortable to wear. They are also 100% vegan & cruelty-free.

In comparison to brands like Lime Crime & Anastasia Beverly Hills, these lipsticks seem to have the best staying power in that they are both smudge-proof & kiss-proof. Okay you can't have a full on makeout session but you can have a quick smooch or give someone a peck on the cheek & your lipstick won't transfer at all. If I wore one of these to a wedding I would feel confident about giving the bride a celebratory kiss on the cheek & not ruining her makeup. You can also eat & drink whilst wearing these lipsticks. I've had varying degrees of success with this. Anything oily is out of the question but I've managed to eat a Boots meal deal without needing to touch up afterwards. It might start to disappear from the inner section of your lips but that's easy to fix once you're done eating. The smooth consistency means that they won't cake or pill when touching up your lipstick either.

The longevity of these lipsticks is unparalleled & they will last for hours on end. As a result removal can be somewhat tricky. When I was doing my lip swatches for this post, micellar water couldn't budge it at all. I didn't want to redo the rest of my makeup either so I had to pop some vitamin E oil on a cotton bud & use that to loosen the pigment. Then I could clean away the rest with a baby wipe. When it's time to take off all of your makeup, a good cleansing oil is a must in order to get rid of every last trace of lipstick. I've been waiting a long time for these lipsticks as I didn't want to order from Jeffree Star's website & risk paying customs fees. Luckily you can now order them from the UK via Cocktail Cosmetics & they have a great selection of colours available. I decided to get two lipsticks - Celebrity Skin & Unicorn Blood. I often wear nudes & reds so I thought they would be great to start off with but since trying them I'm desperate to get my hands on some of the more outrageous colours!

Celebrity Skin is a soft brown nude with a peachy undertone. It's a gorgeous 90s brown shade that would be ideal if you're going for the Kylie Jenner look. Overdrawing your lips with these lipsticks is really easy & doesn't look too obvious. To be completely honest this colour looks nothing like I thought I would. It dries down a lot darker than how it looks in the tube & isn't the perfect nude that I was hoping for. It pulls very brown on me due to my pale complexion. From what I've seen this colour looks stunning on anyone who is darker or more tanned than me. I still think it's a really pretty & unique colour which I will definitely continue to wear but I would've preferred it to be a little bit lighter. I'm Nude seems like it would be a much better choice if you're looking for a true nude lipstick.

Unicorn Blood is a deep burgundy shade with a warm undertone. This is the colour that first drew me to Jeffree Star Cosmetics & I was so excited to finally get it! I love how vampy & gothic it looks whilst still being a very wearable lip colour. My lips are grossly overdrawn here but there's something about these lipsticks that stops them from looking obviously fake. I really like the doe foot applicators on these lipsticks but they are a little too flexible. I had a bit more trouble applying this lipstick because it's such a dark shade & easy to make mistakes with. Plus my wonky lips don't really help matters! I'd recommend using a berry coloured lip liner first to define the edges & a concealer to clean up with afterwards. Anyway I'm completely infatuated with this dark red lippie & I think it goes really well with my colouring. The formula of the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks is absolutely brilliant & I will certainly be ordering a few more of them very soon!

Mhoho Jewellery

Whenever I'm feeling a bit bored I love having a look through Etsy for cool new things to buy. There's an endless supply of handmade goods & vintage treasures to be found on there & I can spend hours adding things to my favourites list. I think it's important to support small independent shops plus you can buy stuff that nobody else owns. I often use Etsy for things like stationery, homeware & accessories but the main thing I search for is jewellery. One of my most recent Etsy discoveries is Mhoho Jewellery which is a UK based shop owned by the lovely Jenny. Mhoho means 'by me' so the name acknowledges all the hard work that Jenny puts into her jewellery as she designs & handcrafts everything herself. Her shop is home to a unique collection of quirky & playful jewellery. Many of the pieces are personalised, engraved or hand-stamped. The designs are eclectic & the materials used are all high quality. There are so many stunning pieces to choose from & almost everything fits in with my own personal style. I chose a couple of pieces which came packaged in this adorable little gift box. She even threw in a bag of sweets which is always appreciated! The attention to detail & personal touches like these really make you feel valued as a customer. Whether you're buying a treat for yourself or a present for a someone else, you're bound to fall in love with Mhoho Jewellery.

When I first checked out the shop I immediately found myself drawn to the gold name necklace*. I love anything personalised, especially jewellery. It's such a cute way of making sure that no one will ever forget your name. I used to have a name necklace from Argos that I wore to death & it completely fell to pieces. The chain snapped so I bought a new one & a couple of months later that one broke too! After spending £100 on subpar necklaces I kinda gave up as I couldn't find another gold name necklace in a style I liked. So I was overjoyed when Jenny kindly offered to make me a new one! It's made from 9ct gold & I went for the 16" chain. The actual name part is quite thick & very sturdy so it won't get bent out of shape like my old necklaces. I think it looks utterly beautiful & I love the italic script font. The style is exactly what I was after. It's such a classic piece & goes with absolutely everything. I've been wearing this necklace constantly & have had so many compliments on it. Obviously as this is a custom made piece it'll take a little bit longer to be delivered but it's well worth waiting for!

Mhoho Jewellery also have so many gorgeous looking rings! There's loads of different styles available including some lovely engraved brass rings as well as druzy & large gemstone rings. I currently have a huge obsession with plain midi rings as I love their simple & minimalistic aesthetic. I got both the set of gold midi rings* & the set of silver midi rings*. Whenever I really like a piece of jewellery I often buy it in both gold & silver to match whatever I'm wearing. The thin bands can be easily stacked together or layered with other rings. They can be worn pushed against one another or spaced out like I'm wearing them here. I think that the three gold rings stacked together look totally chic. These are the kind of rings that I like to wear on an everyday basis as they're so comfortable on my fingers & don't get in the way but still add a little something extra to any outfit. I'm so pleased with all the pieces I received from Mhoho Jewellery & Jenny is such a sweetheart. Her shop is must-have on your Etsy favourites list!

Vitage 30 Day Skincare Challenge

Skincare is a subject that is very dear to my heart & it's taken a long time to find the right kind of products for my combination skin type. British skincare brand Vitage recently challenged me to ditch my well established skincare routine & try out their products for a whole month instead. Normally I would recommend only introducing one new product at a time in order to minimise the chances of irritation but I decided to throw the rule book out of the window & take a chance on Vitage. Why did I do such a thing? Well Vitage's products combine the power of science & nature. As well as plenty of antioxidants & vitamins they feature some of my favourite actives such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid & retinyl palmitate. I know from past experiences that my skin reacts well to these ingredients & nothing on the ingredient lists stood out to me as 'bad' either. The entire range is very gentle yet incredibly effective & that's exactly what I look for when choosing new products. Vitage sent me a full skincare regime based on my skin type & after some thorough testing I can wholeheartedly say that I love these products!

Now I do have to admit that I added in a couple of extras to finish off my skincare routine. I couldn't possibly give up my Una Brennan Vitamin C Cleansing Oil as I still needed something to remove my makeup. Vitage also don't have any kind of toners in their range so I spritzed on some of my beloved La Roche-Posay Serozinc after cleansing too. Otherwise I completely stuck to using Vitage products & they've had such a positive impact on my skin.

The first step in any skincare routine is cleansing so let's start with the Revitalising Daily Cleanse. I always double cleanse my skin & my preferred method of cleansing is an oil followed by a gel. This is a really gentle cleanser with a unique cream/gel formula. It doesn't contain any SLS so it doesn't become overly foamy, it simply emulsifies on contact with water & washes away daily impurities. I love the way this makes my skin feel, fresh & smooth but not taut. It features Brazilian green tea extract & bitter cherry which replenish the skin whilst calming any redness & irritation. The soothing blend of aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, panthenol & glycerin imparts softness and hydration. I wish more cleansers were like this, rich in potent natural ingredients that really help to nourish the skin. The bottle is huge & comes with a handy pump dispenser. A little goes a long way with this stuff. You only need one pump to clean your whole face so it will last for months & months!

The product that I was most interested in trying is the Correct & Perfect Skin Serum. This serum has a very lightweight silky texture & would be great for anyone with blemish-prone skin. Salicylic acid is the key ingredient here as it helps to unblock pores & reduce sebum production. It also contains glycolic acid, retinyl palmitate & zinc which combined help to increase cell turnover and promote healing. I normally use two pumps on my face, focusing the serum on my most problematic areas. You can use this several times a day but I stuck to just using it at night underneath the moisturiser. I think it really excels at bringing active blemishes to the surface & eliminating them quickly. It wasn't quite as effective on my closed comedones though as my skin is used to a higher concentration of salicylic acid. However for anyone who doesn't use already a lot of actives, this product would be a great addition to your skincare routine.

I think that my favourite Vitage product has to be the Age Defence Power Skin Repair. This is a brilliant anti-ageing moisturiser that can be used both day & night. I normally use a different moisturiser for the day & a dedicated night cream but this product just works so perfectly that it's the only moisturiser I need. Half a pump is about the right amount for me as it is fairly rich. It really helps to refine the texture of your skin making it feel supple & baby soft. The moisturiser is intensely hydrating and offers anti-ageing & anti-inflammatory benefits to all skin types. It contains retinyl palmitate which is a gentler version of retinol so it effectively treats both lines & blemishes at the same time. The potent cocktail of vitamins, plant extracts, hyaluronic acid, blackcurrant seed & rosehip oil really packs a punch. Together these ingredients help to repair the skin making it firmer, smoother, calmer & much better hydrated. Along with the mask I think that this moisturiser has had the most visible effect on my skin. It's definitely a luxury moisturiser but those high-performance ingredients are worth every penny.

My skin can be quite fussy when it comes to sun protection. I hate anything that looks greasy or has that horrible sunscreen smell. They're often the worst offenders for causing breakouts too. Naturally I was a little bit worried about trying the Skin Defence SPF 30 but my fears were soon allayed. It feels extremely lightweight & absorbs very quickly without any greasy residue, smell or white cast. It doesn't pill when layered with other products & generally feels comfortable to wear. Best of all it doesn't break me out whatsoever. I was expecting the worst but I am super impressed with this product! As well as providing SPF 30 with UVA/UVB protection, this sunscreen is packed full of antioxidants to soothe & care for the skin. I'm really glad that Vitage make a separate sunscreen as so many other brands don't bother. It's such an important step especially if you're trying to prevent the signs of ageing. Apparently this is one of their best selling products. The formula is fantastic & you get a massive 100ml tube so I would highly recommend checking this out if you're looking for a good facial sunscreen.

Vitamin C is such an important ingredient in skincare. Anyone with dull skin should definitely be using it somewhere in their skincare routine. The amazing Vitamin C Radiance Mask would be a great product to start with. This is a clay mask with a difference. It instantly brightens the skin giving it a gorgeous radiant glow. Most of the ingredients are very hydrating so it would be perfect for anyone with dry or dehydrated skin. It contains things like glycerin, cocoa seed butter, aloe vera, sweet almond oil & hyaluronic acid so it doesn't crack on the skin like some clay masks do. The clay along with zinc & retinyl palmitate help to clear up blemishes & refine skin texture. I've been using it once or twice a week & my skin is always left feeling super soft afterwards. My pores are minimised & any fine lines get plumped up again. It really helps to improve my complexion & even out the tone of my skin.

Since the initial 30 day trial period I've carried on using every single one of these products. Any skincare products that combine scientifically proven active ingredients with natural botanical extracts just seem to work really well for me & these products from Vitage are no exception. Although it's been quite nice to stick to a simplified skincare regime, I've added in a few more things that I already owned just to tweak it slightly & make things perfect. My skin was really missing the Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid. I'm prone to closed comedones on my forehead & without a dedicated BHA product in my routine, they can get quite bad. The BHA liquid & the Age Defence moisturiser are a match made in heaven and my skin has never felt so smooth before. I'm really glad that I decided to do this skincare challenge as I've found so many new products that I truly love! Vitage products can be purchased from Courthouse Clinics nationwide or online from Effortless Skin.

Birthday Haul

ZOEVA Rose Golden Complete Eye Set Vol. 2
It seems like everyone in the beauty blogosphere owns the ZOEVA Rose Golden brushes & it's with good reason. The quality is exceptional & they're well worth the investment. I already have the original brush set but I needed some new eye brushes so it was a no-brainer to ask for this set. You get loads of blending brushes in different sizes so you never have to worry about having a clean one to spare. The crease brushes are my favourite as they fit my eye socket perfectly. They come in this pretty rose gold pouch so they're great for travelling with too. I think that the ZOEVA Rose Golden brush sets are excellent value for money & they look gorgeous to boot!

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Red Carpet Red
I have a somewhat unhealthy obsession with Charlotte Tilbury's makeup range! Her Matte Revolution lipsticks are a more modern take on the matte lip. The formula doesn't feel drying or look flat & the all of the colours available are totally stunning. My mum kindly bought me the shade Red Carpet Red. It's a true ruby red colour brimming with Hollywood glamour. I really love the packaging too. This kind of colour will suit everyone & no girl should be without a classic red lippie in their collection.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil
As someone who loves her retinoids I was absolutely desperate to try this stuff out! I'd never really felt compelled to try any Sunday Riley products before because they are ridiculously expensive & I'm pretty happy with my skincare routine as it is. Luna really intrigued me though because the idea of an oil-based retinol treatment is pure genius. I use retinol to help clear blemishes but it can be quite harsh on the skin, leading to dryness & irritation. In theory a facial oil should negate all the bad side effects of retinol so I cannot wait to see what Luna can do for my skin!

Daisy London Heart Chakra Chain Bracelet
Daisy London make some truly beautiful pieces of jewellery & this heart chakra bracelet has been on my wishlist for so long. I used to be really into crystals & chakras so when I discovered their chakra collection it was love at first sight. Wearing chakra jewellery is supposed to help balance your energy flow. The heart chakra is associated with love, self-control, forgiveness & the colour green. The bracelet even has a little green gemstone on the chain. I've been struggling to accept myself & others recently so this bracelet really means a lot to me. Much love to Andy for buying me the most perfect birthday present!

Twenty Seven

Dress - Vero Moda* / Shoes - Topshop / Bag - Zara / Watch - Michael Kors

As I mentioned in my last post I recently had my 27th birthday. I honestly still feel like I'm a teenager & not a real grown up! Does that feeling ever go away? I decided to wear something quite simple as we were spending the day in Blackpool & I wanted to be comfortable. It might seem odd that I'm wearing tights in August but last time we went I made the mistake of not wearing any & it was so windy that I couldn't walk two steps without my dress blowing up! Anyway this gorgeous Vero Moda dress caught my eye on the House Of Fraser website. I love the floral pattern & I thought the colours looked really pretty together. My obsession with skater dresses is still going strong but this one looks slightly more mature than some of the others in my wardrobe. I've gotten to the stage where I feel that most of my dresses & skirts are way too short for me now so I really appreciate the longer length of this dress! The pattern of the dress is quite bold so I decided not to wear many accessories. I just put on my Michael Kors watch & trusty old Zara handbag. I still absolutely adore these shoes from Topshop. I bought them a few years ago but I wear them all the time. I have a thing for white shoes & they're the perfect T-bar Mary Jane style.

I liked this outfit so much that I also wore it for my birthday meal in York with the rest of my family. Our train was a nightmare as the York races were going on & somehow their train from London was delayed by over two hours! By the time we all met up we were starving. We'd never been to Bill's before so we decided to eat there & the food was incredible! I had a huge burger with sweet potato fries & onion rings followed by pecan pie. Luckily the cut of this dress is super flattering & skims over my stomach so my food baby was kept perfectly concealed!

A Trip To Blackpool Tower

Last year we went to Blackpool for my birthday & we had such a great time that we wanted to go back again this year. One of the main tourist attractions there is The Blackpool Tower & unfortunately we didn't get to go up it last time due to high winds. They kindly invited us back this year so that we could experience all five attractions within the Tower. On my 27th birthday Andy, Chloe & I drove from Yorkshire to Lancashire for a fun-filled day at the seaside.

I was most excited about going up to The Blackpool Tower Eye so that's where we went first. We got to take some souvenir photos before entering the 4D cinema. We watched a short film about the Tower & the special effects were really cool. They sprayed us with water & foam which really added to the experience but I wasn't expecting to get wet! Then we had to queue for the lift up to the top. The lift was quick but gentle so it's perfectly suitable for any young'uns. The best part was the SkyWalk. It's a 5cm thick glass platform that is completely safe to stand on & gives you some amazing bird's eye views of the Blackpool promenade. Walking on top of it feels quite surreal & it's totally worth going up there just for that. We also climbed the stairs to the outer level so we could enjoy being 380ft up in the air out in the sunshine. The views are phenomenal & I imagine it looks even better when the Blackpool Illuminations are switched on.

Next we went to The Blackpool Tower Ballroom which you might recognise from The Killers' Here With Me music video. It dates back to 1894 & is world famous for the unique sprung dance floor. The interior architecture & design of the room is absolutely stunning! The room is ornately decorated with a beautiful red & gold theme. The ceiling is exquisitely painted & lit up by crystal chandeliers. It has a very special atmosphere & watching everyone dancing to the Wurlitzer organ is rather lovely. I would definitely recommend stopping off here for some cake or afternoon tea whilst you watch the dancers. I had a slice of toffee millionaires' cake with a deluxe hot chocolate & they were both utterly delicious!

I would've loved to go to The Blackpool Tower Dungeon but as Chloe's only five years old we thought it might be too scary for her. I have great memories of visiting The London Dungeon when I was younger so it would've been fun to learn more about the gory side of Lancastrian history. The Drop Dead Drop Ride sounds really cool too. They even have a tavern at the end where you can drink mead with some of the dungeon characters. Instead we went to Jungle Jim's which is a soft play centre within the Tower. They have some huge slides & Chloe really enjoyed herself in there. The actual play area is quite closed off to adults though so it was hard to keep an eye on her. I much prefer play gyms where adults can go around with the kids just in case Chloe gets stuck or lost. It makes me a bit sad when parents just dump their kids in soft play & ignore them which is something you're kinda forced to do here. It was also boiling in there so we left after about 20 minutes instead of staying for our full hour long slot. Plus we wanted to go outside to the beach & arcades for a bit before visiting our next Tower attraction.

The last thing we decided to do was go to The Blackpool Tower Circus. The circus arena looked as elegant as the ballroom but the seats were worse for wear & kinda gross to sit on. The show we went to see was called 'Mooky & Mr Boo's Big Day Out At The Circus'. The comedy is very slapstick & old fashioned but it's sure to raise a chuckle from all the family. The main attraction of the show are the many world-class acrobats performing incredible feats. This was Chloe's first ever trip to the circus so she was shocked & surprised by many of the acts. Some of the things they did were really dangerous! A couple of the performers nearly fell several times when they tried skipping on the tight rope & the wheel of death. I especially enjoyed the magic act who kept changing their clothes in an instant. If only I could do the same! For the grand finale the circus ring was lowered into a pool of water & two motorcyclists rode around in a giant metal ball, just like what Homer did in The Simpsons Movie (Simpsons did it!). I also got a birthday shoutout which was pretty awesome even though I'm about 20 years older than everyone else on the birthday list!

The circus show went on for two hours so we were quite tired & hungry by the time it was over. We walked back down the promenade eating chips, doughnuts & fudge. It's not really possible to eat healthy food in Blackpool so we just embraced it. We played some more in the arcades & went on some rides in the Central Pier before getting a Cinderella carriage ride. It was a bit of a rip off but Chloe was desperate to go in one! Then we went back to the car & drove home to find out about the water contamination in Lancashire. No wonder bottles of drink were so expensive!

Overall we had a really lovely time & I had a fab birthday in Blackpool. Huge thanks to The Blackpool Tower for hooking us up with Tower Tickets which allow you to visit all five Tower attractions within 90 days of purchase & are great value for money. Buying them online will get you an even bigger discount. If you're planning to visit Blackpool I think that this kind of tourist attraction is best if you come as a family as there's something to entertain everyone. For people around my age I'd highly recommend checking out the Eye & having afternoon tea in the Ballroom. Hopefully we can go back in a few years time when Chloe is old enough for the Dungeon as it looks like loads of fun! I'd quite like to go back again in September for the Illuminations especially as Tim Burton is going to be switching them on!
